Weekly Visitor was born in November 2000. That's a FAST FACT for you!
HISTORY Weekly Visitor came about when former webperson Nik was bored at work one day and decided to make drawings of her favorite wrestlers for her boyfriend, JOSH. For mysterious reasons, they decided to combine their efforts and create a website to display their comics they had created, and updated it regularly with new comics. Sooner or later, said site got mentioned on Portal of Evil. Then, it jumped from having 10 or less visitors a day (6 or 7 being Nik and Josh) to a little more than that. People were signing the guest book and saying that they either hated it or liked it, and also gave them ideas of what kind of matches to do next. I know for a fact that this is how I located Weekly Visitor for the first time. Because I was there. Locating it. By the following year Nik had decided that we should go to our own place. You know, because it was fun being a stupid and nonsensical little site. Plus, she had some extra money, and so forth. With input from Josh, she decided to do all of the transitioning and additions during March, or as they had dubbed it, "X-Treme March," a tradition which continues to this very day. This is when the infamous message board was first added. People from the guest book started posting there--first Hooker and then others such as myself, JonHunt and The Next Mideon quickly followed. We all liked and appreciated wrestling, each to varying degrees, but we weren't afraid to make fun of it. I can't speak for all of us, but I think we have seen all of the 'serious' sites and felt that there needed to be a lighter side, especially if all you're doing is reporting on fake wrestling on a fake internet. It's not really as prestigious as you may think. Eventually, word about Weekly Visitor somehow spread around (I'm not exactly sure how), and we attracted other future staff members, such as JG, Boobermonkeys, and Super Asia. However, sometimes things change and, people do move on. That, or wrestling just becomes way too boring. All of the original founders of the site, Nik, JOSH, and Baruni have retired to the land of lost angles, and while Weekly Visitor still deeply misses their input, insight, and Kevin Kelly, all was not lost. Besides, having passed on, they now know the identity of DDP's secret benefactor. It was in May of 2003 that I more or less 'officially' took over the ownership of Weekly Visitor, which consisted of plunking down slightly around 100 dollars for horribly sub-par hosting service. But, why? I'm not even sure myself, still. I have a deep amount of love for Weekly Visitor. I'd like to think that if Weekly Visitor stands for anything, it stands for being able to have a good time while watching wrestling, and not taking a bunch of guys wearing panties rolling around fake fighting each other way too seriously and bitching about Benoit's latest WORLD TITLE push. I still like wrestling. I think most of the staff of Weekly Visitor still does. Granted, it's hard not to admit that the better days of Pro Wrestling in North America are behind us, but I for one say that we should at least enjoy the ride down. And for that, and many other reasons, I expect Weekly Visitor to continue for at least some time in the future. Sincerely, Sofa
